Antibacterial Properties of Commercial Lavender Essential Oil against Some Gram-Positive and Gram-Negative Bacteria

Herbs and essential oils (EOs) have been used in medicine veterinary, agriculture, the food industry, cosmetology. Many EOs possess various biological properties, i.e. antibacterial, analgesic, anti-inflammatory antioxidant, fungicide, larvicidal, antitumor activities, etc. Lavender oil is one of most valuable aromatherapy oils. Its antibacterial antifungal activities revealed many studies. In current study, properties commercial lavender EO against some Gram-positive Gram-negative bacteria were studied. To this intent, antimicrobial susceptibility test was (the Kirby–Bauer disk diffusion for measuring zone diameters bacterial growth inhibition). strains such as Escherichia coli (Migula) Castellani Chalmers (ATCC® 25922™), 35218™), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Schroeter) Migula 27853™) Staphylococcus aureus subsp. Rosenbach 29213™), methicillin-resistant (MRSA), mecA positive (NCTC® 12493), Enterococcus faecalis (Andrewes Horder) Schleifer Kilpper-Balz 51299™) (resistant to vancomycin; sensitive teicoplanin) 29212™). Results study that resistant strains, E. P. strains. The inhibition zones after application similar control samples (96% ethanol). On other hand, S. 29212™) EO. highest observed This demonstrates potential an agent use treatment MRSA infection. data contributes ongoing scientific investigation regarding natural agents.
